Interior Care
Motorists often spend a lot of time thoroughly cleaning their cars on the outside as a precaution against rust and paint damage.
Pressures of time often mean that interior care is neglected. However, if you like to sit in a clean car, but don't want to spend a lot of time cleaning it, the tips below will help you to get the interior clean a little bit quicker.
Moisten a clean, lint-free cloth with water and clean the plastic parts and instrument panel.
If that is not enough, use a special solvent-free plastics cleaner and care agent.
Important: Never clean the instrument panel or the surfaces of the airbag modules with cockpit sprays or cleaners that contain solvents. Cleaning agents that contain solvents could cause the surfaces to become porous. Should the airbag deploy, plastic parts could fly loose and cause serious injuries.
Careful! Cleaning agents that contain solvents will attack the material and could cause damage.
The best way to clean upholstery and fabric linings on doors, the headlining, etc. is to use special cleaning agents or dry foam and a soft brush.
Clean the dirty leather surfaces with a slightly moist cotton or woollen cloth.
Clean more heavily contaminated areas with a cloth and a mild soap solution (two teaspoons of neutral soap to about one quart of water). Make sure that no part of the leather gets completely soaked and that no water is able to ingress the stitching. Wipe it down afterwards with a soft, dry cloth.
Particles of dust and dirt in pores, folds and seams can scrub the material and damage the surface of the leather. You should protect the material against the effects of direct sunlight to prevent it from fading. However, slight changes in the color of the high-quality natural leather caused by use are perfectly normal.
Volkswagen endeavours to maintain the special characteristics of the natural product leather unblemished. However, due to the exclusive nature of the leather varieties used and their characteristics (such as sensitivity to oil, grease, dirt contamination, etc.) a certain degree of caution is needed during use and during care.
Treat the leather at least every six months. Apply the care agent sparingly. Wipe it down afterwards with a soft cloth. Our advice is to use the leather care agent that is available at Ontario Volkswagen.
